Is Garlic Poisonous to Dogs?
It is discussed again and again in various Internet forums and reports are circulating in the press about it: Garlic could cause poisoning in our pets. However, that cannot be said in general terms, but rather has to pay more attention to some aspects!
Swiss studies have shown that a dose of around 5 g of FRESH garlic per kg of body weight per day can have a toxic effect. That would mean that z. For example, a 10 kg dog would need 50 g of garlic. That's the equivalent of about 16 (!) Toes a day. For a dog weighing 25 kg it would even mean that he would have to eat 125 g daily, i.e. more than 40 (!) Cloves of garlic - these are unrealistic amounts. The latest Dutch studies (June 2013) even show that the critical dose is only reached at 15 to 30 g per kg of body weight per day!
As soon as a fresh clove of garlic is cut, sulphurous substances are created that can be problematic for dogs and cats. However, these evaporate easily in the air. However, you should refrain from feeding FRESH garlic.
In the Grau products garlic granules and garlic tablets, these sulphurous substances are present in dried form and therefore do not play a role for the animal.
